My Other Alias (mymorningjackets)

As a few of you will already know, I have a Youtube page with fan arrangements of various themes from video games. It can be found here:

When I set the account up, it was simply as a means to collect my favourite youtube videos together, like some crazy convoluted bookmark. Little did I know that a year on I would be recording my own arrangements! Some have (quite rightly) criticised me on the incredibly derivative username, but, like with so many things in my life, they have connections to music in some way.

Anyway, and here's the point: I create those arrangements to show that, (esp. in regards to 8 bit/16 bit games) underneath the relatively primitive sounds of the original tracks therein lies some truly beautiful music.

Here's my latest video:

I'm not ashamed to say that there would be times when I would load a game up just to hear the music: I remember hearing the music to 'Flimbo's Quest' on the C64 for the first time and being blown away by it. Of course, thanks to emulation, we now have access to dedicated programs that enable us to listen to entire soundtracks spanning a wealth of different gaming platforms (if you're a Mac user, I recommend the following programs: SIDplay, Game Music Box and AudioOverload).

Of course, there's no way that I could decided which (retro) platform had the best music, though I will no doubt comment on this in a later post :)

There was a hole here......it's gone now.

Here you will find news, reviews and articles relating to video game music (along with news of updates to my youtube page alias "mymorningjackets"). Please feel free to comment!
